The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FMV) is a public Institution of Higher Education, integrated in the University of Lisbon. The FMV mission is “to create, transmit and disseminate culture, science and technology in the area of Veterinary and biomedical Sciences through the development of education, research and the provision of excellent services for the benefit of society”.

At FMV, the Faculty Teaching Hospital provides an invaluable source of clinical cases of companion and farm animals, allowing research in a reference clinical asset. In addition, recently FMV animal facility was completely renovated and supports biomedical research using different animal models, a major tool in collaborative networks with medical and pharma schools, hospitals (human and veterinary), and the biotech and pharma industry. The research activities at FMV are carried out within the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Animal Health (CIISA). Presently, CIISA counts with 158 researchers, of which 103 integrated PhD members and 44 PhD students. FMV/CIISA strongly stimulate several research lines in collaboration with national and international institutions, aiming to develop novel therapeutic strategies that can provide greater benefit from current drugs and bearing in mind the importance of animal models in this context.

The FMV/CIISA is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and highly trained human resources that pursue high impact cutting-edge fundamental and applied multidisciplinary research in different areas of animal, veterinary and biomedical sciences. FMV/CIISA provides therefore a great match with the VectorB2B Co-Lab aims to provide Drug Discovery Services for new therapeutics.
